The Northeastern University baseball team lost the deciding game of a three-game series against Virginia Commonwealth 16-2 at The Diamond in Richmond, Va. on Saturday afternoon. The teams faced a 3-1/2 hour rain delay after the third inning and the Huskies were unable to find a rhythm once the game started up again.
The Huskies got on the board in the third when Chris Guillemette scored on a Mike Tamsin double. NU picked up its only other run in the seventh when David Gustafson and Josh Porter hit back-to-back doubles.
Kris Dabrowiecki started the game for the Huskies, but went just three innings as he did not return after the lengthy delay. Les Williams relieved Dabrowiecki, but was unable to record an out before Charly Bashara came in to pitch the final five innings.
The Huskies fell to 12-16-1 on the season and 5-9-1 in the CAA with the loss, while the Rams improved to 9-21 overall and 3-9 in the CAA. NU is back in action on Monday when the team travels to the University of Connecticut for a non-conference game.
