The Northeastern University baseball team lost 10-0 in its series-opener at Old Dominion behind a tremendous effort from the Monarchs' reigning All-American pitcher, Anthony Shawler.
The Huskies mangaged just two hits on the night against the dominating right-hander, as Shawler tied an ODU record with 18 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout. Ryan Maguire got the first Husky hit when he singled through the left side to lead off the sixth and the only other Husky hit came when Jeff Dunlap led offf the ninth inning with a single to right field.
Jeff Thomson took the loss for the Huskies and gave up five runs in 4-1/3 innings to fall to 4-3 on the season. Bobby Carrington and Trevor Smith combined to pitch the final 2-2/3 innings for the Huskies.
Northeastern drops to 16-18-1 overall and 7-11-1 in the CAA with the loss, while Old Dominion improves to 19-21 on the season and 10-10 in the conference.
