The Northeastern University baseball team beat the Bryant University Bulldogs 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond. The win snaps a three-game skid for the Huskies and saw a career day from senior designated hitter Alex Fox.
Fox had a career-best three hits to lead the Husky offense and finished the game 3-4 with a two-run double and a career-high four RBI. He also stole his second base of the season in the Husky win.
Freshman Les Williams had a milestone day as well, recording the first two hits of his career and he also scored his first collegiate run. Mike Tamsin and Frank Compagnone rounded out the Husky offensive attack. Tamsin scored a run and reached base four times, going 1-2 with two walks and was hit by a pitch, while Compagnone finished 1-2 with an RBI-single and a pair of walks.
After making two relief appearances, Trevor Smith made his first start of the season since returning to the Husky pitching staff following offseason surgery. He went four innings and allowed just one hit, one unearned run and struck out a batter. Charly Bashara picked up the win after a stellar relief effort in which he went three scoreless innings, allowing two runs and no walks, while striking out three. Tyler Thornton and Sheldon McDonald tossed the final two innings.
Northeastern improved to 17-20-1 on the season with the win, while Bryant dropped to 36-15 overall. The Huskies are back in action at 3 p.m. tomorrow when they host Harvard at Friedman Diamond.
