The Northeastern University baseball team topped #19 UNC Wilmington 6-4 in game one of a doubleheader at Friedman Diamond on Saturday afternoon, putting an end to the Seahawks' 21-game winning streak. Junior Jeff Thomson threw a complete game for the Huskies, his fourth of the season.
Thomson was able to keep the Seahawk bats relatively quiet, limiting the potent offense to four runs on nine hits in the game. He also struck out three and walked just one batter in the complete-game effort that brought his record up to 4-1 on the season.
Junior Frank Pesanello got the Huskies on the board in the second with a line-drive, three-run homer to left center. NU picked up one more run on the inning when junior James Donaldson scored on a wild pitch and added its only other two runs in the bottom of the third, chasing Seahawk starter Seth Frankoff from the game. James Donaldson led the Huskies with three hits in the game, while captain Mike Lyon, sophomore Tony DiCesare and Pesanello each had two.
The win improved the Huskies to 11-11 on the season and 4-6 in the CAA, while the Seahawks dropped to 22-5 overall and 12-1 in the CAA.
