The Northeastern University baseball team's Sunday afternoon game against the UNC Wilmington Seahawks at Friedman Diamond ended in a 3-3 tie after 11 innings due to a CAA travel curfew. With the tie, both teams went 1-1-1 in the series.
The Seahawks scored all of their runs in the first inning, highlighted by a Nate Hall two-run homer. After struggling through the first inning, Husky captain Kris Dabrowiecki was fantastic through the next five and finished with a line of six innings pitched, five hits, three runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Sheldon McDonald then provided the Huskies with five brilliant innings of relief, allowing just two hits and no runs, while walking one and strking out two, helping the Huskies come away with the tie.
The Huskies picked up one run in the bottom of the first on three straight singles from Mike Tamsin, captain Mike Lyon and Tony DiCesare. NU finally tied the game in the eighth inning, when Lyon drove in Frank Compagnone with a triple to right center and scored on the play when Seahawk shortstop Mike Rooney threw the ball into the Husky dugout when he attempted to throw him out at third.
Tamsin, Lyon, DiCesare and Brendan Stokes led the Husky offense with two hits apiece in the game.
It was Northeastern's first tie since it tied Boston College 5-5 in 1992 in a 12-inning game. It was the first time that the Huskies played into the 11th inning since March 27 of last year when NU topped URI 5-4.
The Huskies moved to 11-12-1 on the season and 4-7-1 in the CAA, while the Seahawks finished the series with an overall record of 23-5-1 and a 13-1-1 record in the CAA. NU is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Worcester to play Holy Cross in a non-conference game. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
