The Northeastern University baseball team took a 3-2 loss to Holy Cross on Tuesday afternoon at Fitton Field in Worcester, Mass. Freshman Les Williams was outstanding on the mound for the Huskies, but the Crusaders were able to walk away with the win on a John Sills single that scored Brendan Akashian from third.
Williams dominated the Holy Cross hitters in seven innings of work and came away with a no-decision after allwoing just five hits, one earned run and no walks to go along with seven strikeouts. Bobby Carrington suffered the loss for the Huskies after going 1-2/3 and allowing the winning run in the ninth.
The Huskies managed just two hits on the afternoon. Captain Mike Lyon gave NU its first hit of the game with a line-drive single to center field. The only other Husky hit on the day was Mike Tamsin's triple to right-center field with one down in the eighth. He came in to score the Huskies' second run on a Mike Lyon sacrifice fly.
Northeastern dropped to 11-13-1 on the season with the loss, while Holy Cross upped its record to 12-16. The Huskies are back in action tomorrow when they begin their defense of the Beanpot Championship as they take on Boston College in the semifinal of the Beanpot at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass. at 3 p.m. Ryan Quigley takes the ball for the Huskies.
