Mike Lyon hit a career-high three home runs and drove in six runs, leading the Huskies to an 8-5 win against Hofstra in game one of a doubleheader at Friedman Diamond Saturday afternoon. Lyon's third homer of the game gave the Huskies the walk-off win in what was a seven-inning contest.
Other than Lyon, Mike Tamsin and David Gustafson helped pace the Husky offense. Tamsin went 3-4 and scored a run, while Gustafson finished 2-3 with an RBI-double. Tony DiCesare also chipped in with an RBI-double to complete the Husky offensive attack.
Ryan Quigley started for the Huskies and was solid overall, as he went six innings and allowed seven hits, four runs and two walks to go along with five strikeouts. Sheldon McDonald worked an inning of relief and picked up the win, improving to 8-1 on the season.
Lyon's three home runs in the game gave him 12 on the season, passing his 2007 total of 10. It also gave him 30 home runs in his career, moving him into a tie for fourth place all time in Northeastern history with Derek Gauthier (1992-95).
The Huskies improved to 18-22-1 on the season and 8-14-1 in the CAA with the win, while Hofstra dropped to 18-32 overall and 6-20 in the CAA.
