The Northeastern University baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep against Hofstra with a 6-2 win at Friedman Diamond on Saturday afternoon. The game featured two historical feats, as Frank Pesanello tied the Northeastern single-season record with his 15th home run of the season and Sheldon McDonald started the game and picked up his second win of the day after earning a win in the first game of the day in relief.
While Pesanello's record-tying blast to left center highlighted the Husky offense, Mike Tamsin, Mike Lyon, Frank Compagnone and James Donaldson each picked up two hits in the game as NU finished with 12 hits in the game to Hofstra's five.
McDonald went 5-1/3 to pick up his second win of the day and allowed five hits, two runs and one walk to go along with six strikeouts. He improved to 9-1 on the season with the win and is one win shy of tying Peter Shultz's Husky record of 10 wins in a single season. Kris Dabrowiecki was sensational out of the 'pen for the Huskies, tossing 3-2/3 no-hit innings to close out the game for the Huskies to earn his first save since 2005. The only base runners he allowed were on two walks, as he struck out four in the relief effort.
Northeastern improved to 19-22-1 overall and 9-14-1 in the CAA with the win, while Hofstra dropped to 18-33 on the season and 6-21 in the conference. The Huskies are back in action on Monday when they travel to the University of Massachusetts for a 3 p.m., non-conference game.
