Napoli named to the 2009 Hermann Trophy Watch List

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has named sophomore Veronica Napoli to the 2009 Hermann Trophy Watch List. The Hermann Trophy is the top individual award in intercollegiate soccer. Napoli is the first-ever Husky to receive this prestigious recognition.

Napoli, originally from Newport, R.I., has been selected along with 44 of the best Div. I women's soccer players for this year's watch list. The list is a prelude to the Hermann Trophy, which is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, and considered to be intercollegiate soccer's highest individual honor. The recipients of the Hermann Trophy are selected by current NSCAA Div. I head coaches. In November, a coaches committee will select 15 semifinalists, and three finalists will be announced in December.

Napoli is the first Northeastern soccer player to be acknowledged for the Hermann Trophy. Last season, Napoli was named NSCAA/adidas third-team All-America and CAA Rookie of the Year. As a forward, she helped Northeastern win its first-ever CAA Championship and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She led the Huskies in all scoring categories, and her 12 goals and 29 points are second all-time for a single season at Northeastern.
