Northeastern came in fifth overall at the Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., on Sunday.
NU finished with a time of 5:50.84, beating BU (5:52.83) and falling to Brown (5:41.36), Harvard (5:42.62), Wisconsin (5:44.45) and Cornell (5:48.04). The fifth-seeded Huskies advanced to the Grand Final after finishing second in their first heat earlier in the day.
This is the second year in a row the Huskies have finished fifth in the Grand Final.
In other Northeastern action at the Sprints, the varsity 4 boat medaled with a third-place finish (7:03.96), coming in behind Brown (6:44.32) and MIT (6:57.92), while the second varsity came in fifth with a time of 6:05.89 in the Petite Final and the freshman eight finished fourth in its Petite Final with a time of 5:58.78.
By finishing in the top-nine, Northeastern qualified to compete in the IRA Championship June 4-6. The Huskies will close out the 2009 season on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif.
