The Northeastern Huskies came up short in their bid for a fifth straight win Saturday at the hands of No. 11 Massachusetts, 4-0 at Garber Field. Junior Mikaela Potts had a stellar game, posting a goal and two assists for the victorious Minutewomen. UMass improves to 5-1 on the season, while the Huskies fall to 4-3.
Sophomore keeper Alesha Widdall stood tall in net for UMass, posting 10 saves for her third consecutive shutout. Widdall has not conceded a goal in her last 215 minutes of action.
Potts engineered the first UMass goal at the 20:59 mark of the first half. Off a penalty corner, Potts sent the ball to fellow junior Jaime Bourazeris in front for her third goal of the season.
Junior Katie Kelly doubled the advantage ten minutes later, again off a feed from Potts.
In the game's final ten minutes, the Minutewomen effectively salted the game away. Potts drilled her third goal of the season from 10 yards out to put UMass up 3-0, and senior Jill Powers added another insurance tally with just over two minutes remaining.
Northeastern outshot UMass by a 17-13 margin and outcornered the Minutewomen 12-5.
