Huskies downed by William & Mary 74-65

Kendra Walton's career-high 23 points off 7-of-9 shooting from three point range, tying a single-game school record, was not enough as William & Mary came away with a 74-65 victory over Northeastern on Thursday afternoon.

William & Mary scored the opening six points of the game and outscored Northeastern 20-6 over the first seven minutes of the contest. The Huskies cut the lead down to seven points on a Kim Carr lay up with 5:14 left to make it a 31-24, but the Tribe used an 11-2 run to close out the first half and take a 43-28 lead into the locker room.

Northeastern was held to 34.5 percent from the floor while William & Mary put in 46.2 percent of its shots. Walton had eight points to lead the Huskies in the first while Katherine DeHenzel and Taylor Hilton each had 11 for the Tribe.

Riding Walton's hot hand, the Huskies cut the margin to nine points, but it was as close as Northeastern would get as William & Mary also used the three ball, hitting four from downtown in the second to keep the Huskies at bay. A three from DeHenzel with 3:09 left gave the Tribe its largest lead of the game at 18 points.

Kim Carr finished with 13 points and nine rebounds as the team forced 11 steals and shot 46.4 percent in the second half. William & Mary had four players in double figures with DeHenzel leading the way with 20 points while Taysha Pye added 14 with Hilton scoring 11 and Tiffany Benson added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Northeastern falls to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while William & Mary improves to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in CAA play.

Northeastern returns to action on Sunday, January 17 taking on George Mason at 2 p.m.
