NEWARK, Del. – Sophomore forward
Crystal Poland notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season, but it was not enough as the Delaware Blue Hens bested the Huskies, 2-1.
Poland's strike came just 34 seconds into the second half when she dribbled along the left endline and slid a shot towards the far post that beat Delaware goaltender Noelle Diana (five saves) and found the back of the net.
Delaware stormed back at the 48:43 mark when Melissa LeNoir took a feed from Heather Hartman and roofed a shot past sophomore goaltender
Lizzie Priest to even the score at 1-1.
The Blue Hens took the lead for good eight minutes later when Kasey Prettyman found a loose ball in front of the cage and potted it for her second goal of the season.
Northeastern outshot Delaware by a wide margin, recording 11 shots to just three for the Blue Hens. Poland led the Huskies with seven shots, five of which were on goal.
The Huskies will be right back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 13, when they take on the Connecticut Huskies at Harvard University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
