Huskies fall short against No. 5 Connecticut, 4-0

Box score

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -
The Northeastern Huskies put up a valiant effort, but the No. 5 Connecticut Huskies were too much, defeating Northeastern, 4-0, at Harvard's Jordan Field.

Northeastern controlled play after the opening whistle, and even earned the first penalty corner of the contest. However, Connecticut struck first when junior Cara Silverman tipped a Rayell Heistand shot past sophomore goaltender Lizzie Priest (two saves). Silverman's 10th goal of the season came at the 12:12 mark of the first half.

Eleven minutes later, Connecticut made it 2-0 when Silverman again tipped a shot into the back of the cage, this time from a Melissa Gonzalez shot.

Just before the first half came to a close, junior Ali Blankmeyer tallied her ninth goal of the season to give Connecticut a 3-0 lead at the break.

With about 10 minutes gone by in the second half, junior Bethany Semlear closed the scoring when she blasted a shot past Priest to put Connecticut ahead, 4-0.

Freshman Sarah Mansfield made five saves to earn the shutout. Sophomore Crystal Poland put Mansfield to work often, recording five shots, four of which were on target. Northeastern also earned five penalty corners to just three for Connecticut.

The Huntington Hounds will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 15 when they travel to Chestnut Hill to take on the Boston College Eagles. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
