The Northeastern women's soccer team got back in the win column on Friday at Parsons Field, throttling UNC Wilmington, 4-0.

Four different Huskies scored in the contest, as senior keeper Sarah Fylak picked up her first career victory with a shutout.

The Seahawks nearly put the Huskies in the hole early, but Fylak was able to stop Kelly Dodd's header off a corner in the second minute.

The Huskies attempted to respond in similar fashion in the seventh minute, but a header from senior co-captain Tinna Nielsen sailed over the net. Junior Kelly Matthews nearly set up junior Veronica Napoli just two minutes later, but Napoli's strike was stopped by UNC Wilmington's Caitlin Hunter.

After Seahawks' leading scorer Stephanie Rose fed Kim Currie for a shot off the post in the 28th minute, the Huskies were able to break the deadlock.

After a long feed from senior co-captain Kristen Blake, sophomore Greta Samuelsdottir was one-on-one with Hunter in the box. Instead of taking a shot, Samuelsdottir patiently waited to feed a wide-open Napoli, who punched in her seventh goal of the year to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

UNC Wilmington's Megan Novak nearly equalized in the 36th minute, but her diving header at an open net went wide and the Huskies took a 1-0 lead into the half.

Samuelsdottir opened the second half with a great chance in the 48th minute, but her attempt hit the crossbar. A free kick from UNCW's Lindsay Henry was the Seahawks best chance of the half, but it sailed wide in the 61st minute. Rose also had a solid chance in the 65th minute, but Fylak was able to make the diving stop.

The Huskies were able to earn some breathing room in the 70th minute, when junior Kirby Anderson threw a long lob toward senior co-captain Kristen Blake. Blake outran a pair of Seahawk defenders and made a lunging kick, which got just enough of the ball to beat Hunter for her 3rd goal of the year.

In the 73rd minute, Anderson took a Huskies corner, which she fired towards net. Senior co-captain Lesley Condie was the first on the ball for the Huskies, and after her initial header was saved by Hunter, Samuelsdottir was there to bury the rebound for her eighth goal of the year.

As head coach Tracey Leone began to sub liberally in the game's final minutes (after Leone did not make a single substitution in the first half), the Huskies were able to get on the board for a fourth score. Sophomore Marcela Bedoya fired a perfect cross to classmate Bianca Vecchiarello, who blasted her first collegiate goal past Hunter.

Fylak made her fourth straight start in net for the Huskies and moves to 1-4 on the year with her first career shutout, making five saves. Hunter made six saves for UNCW in the loss.

The Huskies return to action on Sunday when they host Georgia State for the final home game of the 2010 season. Game time is set for 1 p.m., and live stats and video will be available on GoNU.TV.
