The Northeastern women's soccer team fell to No. 21 Hofstra, 2-1 in double overtime, on Saturday in Hempstead, N.Y.

The Huskies and the Pride engaged in a defensive first half, with just four total shots on goal. The Huskies earned a corner kick in the fourth minute, but were unable to capitalize with a scoring chance.

Hofstra's Brittany Butts took the first shot on goal of the contest in the 15th minute, but senior keeper Sarah Fylak was there to make the stop. After a subsequent Hofstra corner kick, the Pride earned a penalty kick in the 16th minute.

Tiffany Yovino stepped up to take the penalty, but Fylak was able to keep the game scoreless and deny Yovino from netting her tenth goal of the year.

Sophomore Greta Samuelsdottir attempted to put the Huskies on top in the 29th minute, but her header sailed wide. Samuelsdottir fired again in the 30th minute, but Hofstra's Krista Thorn stepped up for the save.

Yovino would test Fylak again in the 40th minute, but again the senior netminder was up to the task, making her third save of the half and sending the contest to halftime deadlocked.

After Emily Morphitis relieved Thorn in goal, the Pride went on the attack to start the second half. Hofstra ripped off the first four shots of the period, and nearly got on the board, but Laura Greene's shot in the 56th minute hit the cross bar.

Junior Erin McGaffigan finally was able to muster some offense for Northeastern, but her shot in the 57th minute was high.

After a Yovino header was saved by Fylak in the 65th minute, junior Veronica Napoli was able to break the deadlock and put the Huskies on the board. After a failed attempt by Hofstra to clear, Napoli raced to the ball left of the box and poked a shot past Morphitis for her ninth goal of the year in the 78th minute.

The Huskies lead was short lived, as Hofstra' Amy Turner fired a long lob to Yovino, who was finally be able to beat Fylak for her tenth of the year, in the 84th minute to equalize.

After Greene hit the crossbar again in the 84th minute and senior Kristen Blake's attempt in the 88th minute went high, the contest went to overtime.

Hofstra had the first chance of the extra period, but Fylak was there to make the save on a Butts chance in the 91st minute. Courtney Breen had the next chance for the Pride, but a team save from the Huskies in the 100th minute sent the contest to double overtime.

It took just 46 seconds for the second extra period to come to a close, as Yovino put her second goal of the contest past Fylak in the 101st minute. Dana Bergstrom picked up her CAA leading 10th assist on the goal. The game-winner extended Hofstra's winning streak to 17, longest in the nation.

Fylak started in net for the Huskies and recorded five saves. Thorn made one save while not allowing a goal in the first half. Morphitis allowed a goal on the only shot she faced, but still came away with the victory.

Hofstra finishes the regular season at 17-1, with a perfect 11-0 mark in conference play. With the loss, the Huskies conclude the 2010 season with a 9–8-1 record (4-6-1 CAA) in head coach Tracey Leone's first year.
