Northeastern men's basketball alumni Nkem Ojougboh (2008-10) and Eugene Spates (2006-09) were selected in the second round (ninth pick) and seventh round (third pick), respectively, on Monday, Nov. 1 at the 2010 NBA Development League Draft in New York City.

Ojougboh was scooped up by the Utah Flash, an affiliate of the Utah Jazz and Atlanta Hawks while Spates was drafted by the Maine Red Claws. The Red Claws are partnered with the Boston Celtics and the Charlotte Bobcats.

Ojougboh started 93-of-96 games at Northeastern from the 2007-08 season through last year (2009-10). The Scottsdale, Ariz. native averaged 8.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game throughout his tenure with Northeastern.

Last season, Ojougboh led the Huskies with a 55.5 field goal shooting percentage, but his defensive prowess is what made Ojougboh a versatile asset. The 6-9 center ended his career as Northeastern's fourth all-time leading shot blocker with a total of 133.

Ojougboh played one season at Texas-San Antonio before becoming a Husky in 2007-08. He settled into his surroundings nicely, earning first-team CAA All-Academic laurels in his first and second years while at Northeastern.

Spates was drafted by the Red Claws after spending a season in Luxembourg playing for the BC Mess. The 6-8 outside shooter averaged a double-double in Europe, posting astronomical numbers of 34.6 points per game and 13.2 boards per trip.

While playing at Northeastern, the Dallas, Texas native totaled 710 points in 95 career games (7.5 ppg) while doing most of his damage from beyond the arc.

The 6-8 threat drained 140 3-pointers with the Huskies, amassing an overall clip of .336 (140-of-417) from downtown.

Before donning the red and black, Spates led Dallas Collin County Community College in scoring (13.2 ppg) and rebounds (7.2) and was named to the All-Conference second team.

Ojougboh joins classmates Matt Janning and Baptiste Bataille in the professional ranks following prolific careers on Huntington Ave.

Janning inked a multi-year deal with the Phoenix Suns on Aug. 4, 2010 while Bataille has been running with Etendard de Brest in his native country of France.

Janning checked into three exhibition games in October, netting seven, six and seven points, respectively while Bataille is averaging 9.0 points per game and shooting at a clip of 42.9 percent from 3-point land.
