Northeastern rallied to within four points after being down 13 points at half time but it was not enough as Drexel defeated the Huskies 58-50 on Thursday evening. Drexel's Gabriela Marginean had a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Northeastern was led by Kim Carr with 15 points.
Drexel opened the game on a 10-0 in the first four minutes. The Huskies cut the lead to six, but Northeastern was held to just 28 percent from the field as the Dragons extended their lead to 13 to take a 30-17 lead at the half.
Gabriela Marginean had 15 first half points as Drexel shot 45 percent in the half. Kim Carr led Northeastern with eight points.
The Huskies used a 13-4 run open second using a pressure defense which cut the lead to four. Drexel hit four free throws to push the lead out to eight, where it would stay for nearly six minutes until Marisa Crane hit a three pointer to give the Dragons an 10-point lead with 6:47 remaining. Deanna Kerkhof nailed a three for the Huskies to bring the game back to single digits, but Drexel responded with a pair of free throws from Jasmia Rosseel and a Crane jumper to make it 53-42 with 5:02 left.
Northeastern would bring it to a seven-point game at 55-48 with 58 ticks on the clock, but a Marginean jumper with 36 seconds left sealed the game for the Dragons.
Crane finished with 10 points for Drexel who improve to 15-8 and 9-3 in CAA play. Cannon had eight points for the Huskies, who once again shot over 40 percent in the second half. Northeastern drops to 9-14 and 4-8 in conference.
Northeastern returns to action on Sunday, February 14 taking on Hofstra at Solomon Court at 2 p.m.
