Box ScoreBox Score

A strong first half run to open the game by top-seeded Old Dominion was too much for the Huskies to overcome as Northeastern fell to the Monarchs 68-49 in the CAA quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.

Old Dominion started the game on a 13-2 run over the first 5:11 forcing six Huskies turnovers. The Monarchs expanded the lead out to 16 points, going up 18-2 while holding Northeastern scoreless for nearly seven minutes before Rachael Pecota hit a shot to stop the ODU run. Pecota then nailed a three-pointer to bring the game to 18-7.

The Monarchs continued to cruise as they built up a 21-point lead, but the Huskies responded with a 12-0 run, sparked by Brittany Wilson who knocked down 10 of Northeastern's final 13 points in the final 5:29 to close out the game only down seven points, 30-23 at the half.

The Huskies were held to just 28 percent from the floor in the opening frame as Wilson led the with her 10 first half points. ODU was led by Tia Lewis with nine points while Jessica Canady added eight.

NU cut it to a six-point game, scoring four of the first seven points of the half to make it a 34-28 ballgame, but ODU quickly responded, led by Jasmine Parker who scored 10 points as part of a 14-0 ODU run to take a 48-28 lead. A pair of Mia Mayberry free throws put the Huskies back on the board at 48-30. Mairi Buchan's lay up with 10:21 left gave Old Dominion its largest lead of the game at 22, but a three-point play by Deanna Kerkhof brought the score to 52-33 and cut the ODU advantage to 19.

A basket by Alena Voronina gave ODU a 21-point lead once more at 56-35 with 6:33 to go. Kim Carr's five-point swing of two free throws and a three-point play put the game at 56-40 with just over five minutes remaining. However, the 16-point deficit was as close as Northeastern would get as Old Dominion hit back with two-straight field goals, leading by 22 again. Pecota converted a pair of lay ups for Northeastern and Kashaia Cannon nailed a three then came up with a defensive stop on the other end, which led to a pair of Carr free throws, which was all Northeastern could muster as Old Dominion closed out the game with a 68-49 win.

Wilson led NU with 10 points while Pecota had nine and Kendra Walton added eight. The Huskies finish the season with a 13-18 overall record. Canady led all scorers with 15 points while Parker finished with 10. Northeastern was held to 28 percent shooting for the game while Old Dominion connected on 42 percent of its shots.
