VCU rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to take a 5-4 win over NU in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Sophomore
Andrew Leenhouts hurled a fantastic 8-1/3 innings, striking out nine and allowing just two earned runs. Offensively, senior
Brendan Stokes batted 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI and freshman
Jon Leroux smacked two doubles.
Northeastern scampered out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first using an RBI double from
Frank Compagnone and an RBI single from Stokes.
NU added to the lead in the top of the fourth using a Stokes single, a Leroux double and an RBI ground out.
VCU came back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring one run to make the score 3-1.
The teams traded runs again in the fifth inning, making the score 4-2. The score stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth.
Leenhouts had been throwing an amazing game, allowing just five hits through eight innings. VCU stormed back to erase their deficit and walk off with their second ninth-inning win in two games. The Rams compiled three runs, only two earned, on three hits to take a 5-4 win.
Miller added his first stolen base of the year after going 0-for-3 in the first 12 games of the season.
Northeastern returns to action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. to wrap up the season-opening series with VCU. Freshman LHP
