Northeastern's bats couldn't string hits together against the Villanova pitchers as the Huskies fell, 11-0, in Winter Haven, Fla. Friday. Logan Gillis led the Huskies on offense with two doubles down the left field line. Freshman Kevin Ferguson took the loss, falling to 1-1 on the season.

Villanova batters were clutch, working NU pitchers to two-strike counts 19 times in the game, notching nine of their 12 hits with two strikes and striking out just three times.

Huskies leadoff hitter Matt Miller went 2-for-3 with a game-opening single and a double off the right field wall to extend his hitting streak to five games.

Pitcher Dave Fioretti made his first appearance in a regulation game, throwing two-thirds of an inning to stop the bleeding in the Wildcats' seven-run seventh. Michael Murphy also threw for one inning, striking out one Villanova batter, giving him three strikeouts on the year in just two innings.

Northeastern had consecutive hits just one time in the game, coming in the first inning on back-to-back singles from Miller and Alan Pastyrnak. The Huskies had just five runners in scoring position throughout the game.

The Huskies return to action Saturday for two games, taking on Valparaiso at 10 a.m. and Bowling Green State at 1:30 p.m. Junior RHP Les Williams will get the start in game one, and sophomore LHP Andrew Leenhouts will throw in game two. Stats, live from Auburndale, Fla., will be available at game time.
