Sophomore Evan Whetsell directed Northeastern at the Mason Spring Invitational by claiming the 800-meter crown with the Huskies' fourth-best time in school history. Whetsell kicked out a mark of 1:50.45, making him eligible for the IC4A Championship set to take place on May 14. Whetsell outran Steve Sergeant's mark by one-hundredth of a second (1:50.46) set back on May 11, 1985.

Saturday's meet hosted by George Mason was conducted in sections in most events across the board. Whetsell was in the first section, but beat out 28 other runners spread out across three heats.

Freshman Chris Conway's time of 23.70 in the 200-meter dash was good for second in his heat, 16th, overall. Conway also tried his luck in the 110-meter hurdles, but his qualifying time of 15.49 did not pass him into the final round of eight.

Junior Alex Iannetta entered NU's fourth event of the weekend, taking part in the hammer throw competition at the Brown Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Providence. Iannetta finished 10th in his preliminary heat with a lob of 48.42m (158'10) but did not qualify for the final round.

Northeastern retreats back to Solomon Track on Saturday, Apr. 17 to host the Solomon Invitational. The Huskies will tune up in Dedham before heading to Fairfax, Va. to vie for the CAA Championship on Friday, Apr. 30.
