Northeastern 84, Georgia State 69

A dominating 25-5 run over the first 8:10 of the second half helped Northeastern erase a 14-point halftime deficit and roll on to an 84-69 victory over Georgia State on Wednesday evening at Matthews Arena.

Northeastern converted on 10 of its first 13 shots during that run, en route to a 50.9 shooting percentage from the floor for the night. The Huskies (4-12, 2-3 CAA) were led by its trio of seniors, as Bobby Kelly scored a season-high 22 points, while Bennet Davis scored 21 with eight rebounds and Adrian Martinez netted 16 to go with four assists. The three combined to shoot 20-for-31 (64.5 percent) on the game with four three-point buckets from both Kelly and Martinez to help NU snap a six-game losing streak.

The Panthers (5-10, 1-4 CAA) blistered the nets in the first half, converting 16-of-26 and 7-of-8 from three-point range to stake a 45-31 lead at the break. But Northeastern came out firing on all cylinders, while GSU hit just two of its first seven attempts and turned the ball over three times during the Huskies' run. Northeastern freshman Matt Janning provided the spark on the run, hitting for seven of his 10 points during the steak, while Martinez scored six.

The 84 points is the Huskies highest scoring output of the season, as the team entered the game averaging just 57.6 points per game. Janning also added six boards, as NU won the battle on the glass by a 33-26 margin. Also contributing to the victory, the Huskies turned the ball over just nine times after averaging almost 15 miscues per game in the eight games prior.

Sophomore Eugene Spates added five points and four rebounds in the win, while junior Mark Washington scored four with three rebounds and freshman Manny Adako added six points, five rebounds and three assists from down low. The Huskies have now won 12 of their last 13 games at home dating back to last season.

Senior Lance Perique led all scorers with 23 points and was a large part of the Panthers' first half lead, as he netted 5-of-6 for 15 points in the first 20 minutes. Sophomore Rashad Chase notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and sophomore Leonard Mendez added 13 points.

The Huskies look to build off this win on Saturday as they play host to Hofstra in a CAA matchup that begins at Noon at Matthews Arena. The game will be televised live on CN8.
