BU Wins First Arlett Cup Since 2000

Boston University snapped a six-year dominance by Northeastern by winning the 30th rowing of the Arlett Cup over a choppy 2000-meter Charles River course.

The Huskies took a two-seat lead at the settle and increased it to four seats at the 1000-meter mark. The next 1000 was all Terriers. By 1500, they had pulled even with NU and by 1800 had three seats. At that point, NU caught a crab while fighting a brisk head wind and BU paddled in at 6:43.4 to NU's 6:56.1.

It was the first row of the year for the Huskies and the second for BU. The Arlett Cup record now stands at 22 victories for NU to eight for BU and in the all-time NU/BU series the Huskies lead 38-10. Northeastern won both the second varsity and freshman races by wide margins.

Next week, Northeastern challenges Brown in the annual Dreissigacker Cup on the Seekonk River in Providence, R.I.

Varsity: BU 6:43.4; NU 6:56.1
2nd Varsity: NU 6:58.9; BU 7:20.3
Freshman: NU 6:47.5; BU 6:59.5
