Huskies Defeat Penn in Burk Cup

Northeastern men's crew won the 38th rowing of the Burk Cup by a boat length on a flat but misty Charles River Saturday morning.

The Huskies had a deck-length lead at the settle and increased to two seats by the 500 meter mark. At 1000 meters they increased the lead to four seats and at 1500 had an eight seat margin.

Over the final 500 meters the game Quakers kept bow to stern refusing to grant the Huskies open water. Northeastern crossed the finish line at 5:54.7 to Penn's 5:57.1.

The victory evens the Burk Cup tally to 19 victories apiece and is the Huskies' sixth consecutive win over Penn. Last week at the Sprints, Penn finished third in the Petite Final, just 1.3 seconds ahead of fourth-place NU.

The Northeastern second varsity handily defeated Penn by six seconds flat, finishing in 6:04.6 to Penn's 6:10.6. The Varsity Fours also made easy work of Penn, with the A squad winning their race by 8 seconds flat.

The Huskies finish the regular regatta season at 2-3 and head for the IRA Regatta in Camden, N.J. in two weeks.
