Huskies finish ninth at 108th IRA Regatta

The Northeastern men's crew rowed to a ninth place finish in the 108th installment of the IRA Regatta, held at Cooper River in Camden, N.J.

The Huskies rowed to a time of 5:35.649, only two seconds behind Petite Final winner Boston University at (5:33.667), and runner-up Dartmouth (5:34.139). Columbia (5:36.033), Yale (5:36.935, and Princeton (5:39.488) rounded out the field.

Northeastern needed a top three finish to advance to Saturday's Grand Final, but crossed the line with a time of 5:48.070 to finish fourth. Washington (5:32.362), California (5:33.617), and Syracuse (5:40.111) all advanced to Saturday's Final, while Boston University (5:40.131) and Columbia (5:45.739) moved to the Petite Final with the Huskies. Advancing from the other semifinal were Yale, Princeton, and Dartmouth.

The Huskies advanced to Friday's semis after finishing Thursday's afternoon repechage with a time of 5:32.066,a race that saw the top-four boats cross the line within 1.202 seconds of each other. Northeastern finished behind winner Boston University (5:31.636) and runner-up Cornell (5:31.702). Stanford (5:32.838), Wisconsin (5:38.136), and Pennsylvania (5:50.131) rounded out the field.

In Thursday's morning trials, Northeastern rowed to a fifth-place performance in the opening heat. The Huskies crossed the line at 5:49.264, putting them in the afternoon repechage.

Both California and Yale claimed spots in Friday's semis after they finished both first and second with respective times of 5:31.944 and 5:33.984. Cornell (5:37.309) finished third, with Brown behind Northeastern with a time of 5:41.613. Oregon State rounded out the six-boat field with a mark of 6:16.177.

In second-varsity action, the Huskies finished 11th Saturday's Petite Final. The crew finished behind Syracuse (5:44.725), Princeton (5:45.892), BU (5:47.446), and Yale (5:47.934), crossing the final marker with a time of 5:52.072. Columbia completed the Petite Final field at 5:54.030.

The second-varsity boat advanced to the Petite Final after finishing fifth in Friday's semifinal. The boat timed in at 6:00.454, behind California (5:48.266), Harvard (5:49.871), Cornell (5:56.726), and Columbia (6:00.247), with BU (6:00.800) completing the field. Northeastern advanced to the semis after finishing third in Thursday's heat a with a mark of 05:48.953, behind both California (5:42.877) and Wisconsin (5:47.445).

The freshman boat finished 15th overall at the IRA Regatta, earning a third-place finish in Saturday's Third Final. The Huskies rowed to a time of 5:56.283. In Thursday's heat, the Huskies finished sixth 6:19.625. The Huskies raced in the afternoon repechage, also finishing sixth with a time of 6:00.635, behind Stanford (5:44.242), Wisconsin (5:45.478), Oregon State (5:47.879), Pennsylvania (5:52.208), and Syracuse (5:52.277). The Huskies will battle Syracuse, Pennsylvania, Yale, and Dartmouth in Saturday's Third Final.
