The Northeastern Women's Soccer team took a tough road loss on Sunday, falling at James Madison, 3-1.
The Huskies jumped out to an early lead when sophomore
Greta Samuelsdottir fed a streaking
Veronica Napoli who beat JMU keeper Diane Wszalek in the second minute. The goal was Napoli's sixth of the year.
With the points, both Samuelsdottir and Napoli extend their point streaks to four games. Napoli now has scored a goal in four straight contests.
Northeastern was unable to hold onto the slim lead, as Megan Feesler put in an unassisted equalizer in the 17th minute.
The Huskies were able to hold off a pressuring Dukes offense to close out the first half, and the game went into the half tied at one despite a 12-4 shot advantage for James Madison.
However, Northeastern's fortunes would soon turn, as James Madison's Hermann Trophy watch list member, midfielder Teresa Rynier, converted a penalty kick in the 48th minute, giving the Dukes a 2-1 lead.
The Huskies responded to Rynier's goal by going on the attack, outshooting James Madison 9-4 in the second half.
After Wszalek made a pair of huge late saves on shots off the foot of Samuelsdottir late in the second half, Rynier was able to add an insurance goal for James Madison in the 88th minute, putting the Dukes up 3-1 for good.
