Afreyea Tolbert posted a team-best and career-high 18 points while
Jamie Conroy gathered a career-best 11 rebounds to power the Huskies past William & Mary on Sunday afternoon at Solomon Court, 69-56. Northeastern earned its first CAA win of the season and moves to 6-8 (1-2 CAA) while William & Mary falls to 1-12 (0-3 CAA).
Conroy added eight points and a team-best seven assists to her stat line while classmate
Kashaia Cannon contributed 14 points, four rebounds and four steals. Sophomore
Christine Huber added a career-best 15 points to go with five rebounds. Fellow sophomore
Deanna Kerkhof scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Huskies.
Three players scored in double-digits for the Tribe, as Taysha Pye led the way with 20 points. Emily Correal chipped in 14 points and four rebounds while Kaitlyn Mathieu added 10 points. Katherine DeHenzel was the leading rebounder for William & Mary, pulling down seven boards.
The teams played each other tight throughout the first half. The Huskies held a 33-26 lead with under four minutes to play in the opening period before a 7-0 Tribe run tied the game at 33-all. Northeastern quickly regained the lead off a jumper from
Jewel Tunstull but the Tribe responded with a three pointer from Mathieu to take a 36-35 lead to the locker room at the half.
Northeastern opened up the second half with layups from Cannon and Tolbert to regain the lead. The Tribe managed to tie the score at 42-all before Northeastern took the lead for good. The Huskies used a 7-0 run sparked by a three from Cannon. The Tribe managed to cut their deficit to three but Northeastern utilized three-pointers from Conroy and a Tolbert layup to increase its lead to 11 points, at 57-46.
The Huskies pushed their lead out to 14 points with 10:34 left on the clock. The Tribe managed to bring the margin back down to single digits with less than six minutes left on the clock. William & Mary resorted to fouling in efforts to get back in the game, but Northeastern held on and earned the 69-56 victory.
Northeastern shot 46.7 percent from the floor while limiting William & Mary to a 39.6 percent mark. The Huskies won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding the Tribe 39-33.

Northeastern heads to Hempstead, N.Y. on Thursday afternoon to take on Hofstra. Tip-off is slated for 12 p.m.
