Results
The Northeastern swimming and diving team began the 2011-12 season on Saturday with a tri-meet against Boston College and the University of Houston. The Huskies defeated BC, 225-75, and lost to Houston, 158-141.
Northeastern recorded six first-place finishes on the afternoon, including five of the first six events. The Huskies newcomers paced Northeastern with three individual wins and combined for a victory in one of the relays. Rookie
Anna Schegoleva was victorious in the 100 backstroke, winning in 59.62, while
Deirdre Esposito claimed first in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:06.63. Fellow rookie
Erica DeMunbrun won the 100 butterfly in 58.44.
The Huskies had a strong start to the meet, as the rookie quartet of Schegoleva, Esposito, DeMunbrun and
Olivia Cook won the 200 medley relay in 1:49.06. Northeastern's next victory came in the third event, as sophomore
Adriana Sepulveda claimed the 200 freestyle in 1:56.40. The Huskies also received top-five finishes in the race from
Megan Foran (third, 1:57.43) and
Julia Sepulveda (fourth, 1:57.93).
Schegoleva led the Huskies in the 100 backstroke and sophomore Dana Schelif was not far behind, clocking in third in 1:01.10. Classmate
Julia Alvarez posted a third-place finish of her own in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:09.33.
Senior
Jill Kearns placed first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.73 while DeMunbrun was right behind her for second place (2:09.81).
Cook led a trio of Huskies in the 50 freestyle, placing second in 25.39. Junior
Nicole Colucci was behind her for third in 25.44 while fellow junior
Chelsea Lim finished fourth in 25.64. In the 100 freestyle,
Adriana Sepulveda took second in 54.45 and Cook finished fourth in 55.29.
Northeastern claimed second through sixth place in the 200 backstroke, led by sophomore
Julia Sepulveda with a time of 2:12.61. Junior
Keary McClernan was the top finisher for Northeastern in the 200 breaststroke, clocking in at 2:26.26.
A. Sepulveda earned second place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:11.64 while her sister J. Sepulveda took second in the 200 IM in 2:10.39.
Senior tri-captain
Rachael Peterson led the Huskies on the diving platform, placing fourth in both the 1-meter (250.10) and 3-meter (257.95) event.
Northeastern returns to the pool on Wednesday, Oct. 26, as the Huskies host Bryant at Barletta Natatorium. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
