The Northeastern women's distance team concluded the 2011 CAA Cross Country Championship with an eighth-place performance at Nash Farm Battlefield in Hampton, Ga. on Saturday morning.
James Madison placed three runners in the top six individual spots and captured its second straight CAA Women's Cross Country Championship. The Lady Dukes concluded the competition with 32 points, which was 13 points ahead of second-place William & Mary (45 points). Host Georgia State finished third (89 points). The Huskies aggregate of 248 points was better than Hofstra's (288 points) and Virginia Commonwealth's (289 points) totals.
Junior
Katie Barrett was Northeastern's top finisher, traversing the 6K test with a mark of 23:51 for 34th place. The Norfolk, Mass. native's clip was better than 56 other harriers on Saturday. In all, 90 student-athletes competed at Nash Farm Battlefield.
Senior
Meegan Joly posted a 53rd-place mark of 24:37 while second-year runner
Danielle Klein closed out her second CAA race with a time of 24:37 for 58th place.
Rookie
Mara Scallon turned in a 72nd-place run of 25:09 in her first conference test while junior
Laura Coyne (25:14) and sophomore
Lauren Wardwell (25:18) finished in 74th and 75th, respectively.
Junior
Lauren Ward tallied a time of 25:30 for 78th place and newcomer
Nicole Novellino picked up 87th place after running out a time of 26:14. Senior
Kathleen Keen closed out the Huskies' day in 90th place with a mark of 27:06.
The women's championship season continues in two week when Northeastern competes at the 2011 NCAA Regional Championship on Saturday, Nov. 12 in Buffalo, N.Y.
