Huskies finish in second at Terrier Invitational

Results

The Northeastern swimming and diving team finished in second place after the three-day Terrier Invitational held at Boston University on Nov. 18-20. The Huskies ended the meet with 567.5 points, as Columbia took the top spot with 911.5 points.

Sophomore Adriana Sepulveda and rookie Anna Schegoleva both set new school records during the competition.

Day One

A. Sepulveda claimed first place in the 500 freestyle with a school record breaking time of 4:56.80. The sophomore broke classmate Colleen McCormack's record of 4:58.35, which was set at last year's Terrier Invitational.

Schegoleva followed with a winning performance in the 200 IM, clocking in at 2:04.52. Her time ousted Katherine Fugge's mark of 2:04.56 by a mere 0.04 seconds to set the new school record. Schegoleva now holds two school records in her young career, as she set the mark in the 200 backstroke (2:02.94) at the CAA Pod Meet earlier this month.

Northeastern also took second and third in the 200 IM, with sophomore Julia Sepulveda touching the wall in 2:05.05 for second and senior Jill Kearns finishing third in 2:06.64.

The quartet of Schegoleva, Nicole Colucci, Chelsea Lim and Deirdre Esposito finished fourth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.17 while Schegoleva, Esposito, Erica DeMunbrun and A. Sepulveda clocked in third in the 400 medley relay (3:50.15).

Day Two

Northeastern completed day two of the Terrier Invitational in second place out of the 10-team field. The Huskies accumulated 422 points, trailing Columbia's first-place 600 points.

Northeastern started day two with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Schegoleva, Esposito, DeMunbrun and Lim claimed second in 1:46.33.

J. Sepulveda earned her first win of the meet in the 400 IM, clocking in at 4:23.18. Kearns finished closed behind in third in 4:26.87.

Sophomore Alli Gielowski finished first in the second heat of the 100 butterfly (57.29) with DeMunbrun finishing just behind her in 57.39 and Kearns following in 57.52.

A. Sepulveda was the top finisher for Northeastern in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.01 while Megan Foran took third in her heat with a time of 1:54.14.

Esposito claimed first in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:03.83 while junior Keary McClernan was fourth in 1:05.15 and Julia Alvarez was fifth in 1:05.95. Schegoleva took third in the 100 backstroke (57.16) while Dana Schleif was sixth in 58.23.

J. Sepulveda, Kelley Becherer, Foran and A.Sepulveda combined for a fourth-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay in 7:41.37.

Day Three

Sophomore Colleen McCormack earned the first points of day three with a sixth place finish in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:25.85. Classmate Schleif was the Northeastern's top finisher in the 200 backstroke, finishing in fourth (2:04.72). Allison Walker took seventh in 2:07.13.

McClernan had the best finish for the Huskies in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 2:18.88 for second place.

Kearns recorded a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly, beating the rest of the field with a time of 2:02.63 while J. Sepulveda finished behind her in fourth place (2:05.84).

Northeastern returns to the pool on Dec. 3, as the Huskies make the journey to Amherst, Mass., for a fual meet with Massachusetts.
