BOSTON, Mass., Dec. 18, 2011 -- Despite holding a halftime lead, the Northeastern men's basketball team fell to defending Ivy League champion Princeton, 71-62, on Sunday at Matthews Arena. The visiting Tigers opened the second half with a 15-2 run, turning a four-point halftime deficit into a 45-36 lead, which they never relinquished. With the loss, Northeastern is now 3-5 (0-1 CAA) on the season.

Mistakes plagued the Huskies throughout the game, as Princeton (6-6) was able to score 25 points off of 20 Northeastern turnovers.

Junior Jonathan Lee led the Huskies with 14 points, while freshmen Quincy Ford and Reggie Spencer added 13 points and 10 points, respectively.

The Tigers, who now have won five of their last six contests, were paced by leading-scorer Ian Hummer, who finished the game with 20 points and six rebounds.

After falling behind at the onset of the second half, the Huskies pulled within three at 49-46 with 10:31 remaining, but that was as close as the hosts would come.

Northeastern used a 9-0 run early in the first half to open up a nine-point lead, but Princeton responded by scoring the game's next 10 points to take a 19-18 lead after the opening 12:27 of play. Both sides then traded leads over the next six minutes before the Huskies jumped back ahead and entered the locker room with a 34-30 lead at halftime. Ford led Northeastern with 10 points, while Hummer had eight for the Tigers at the break.

Free-throw shooting was a factor in the contest, as the Tigers connected on 80 percent from the line (16-20), while the Huskies shot just 57 percent (8-14). Otherwise, the two teams tallied similar numbers. Princeton out-rebounded Northeastern, 27-24, and shot 54 percent (25-46) from the field to the Huskies' 50 percent (24-48).

Northeastern will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. CST when it takes on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in Ruston, La. The Huskies will then head to Raleigh, N.C., to face N.C. State on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m., for their final game before the holidays.
