Decarteret matches pole vault record at Florida State

The Northeastern women's track & field team recorded 15 top-10 marks, including another record-breaking performance by Jillena Decarteret, amidst stiff competition at this weekend's Florida State Relays in Tallahassee, Fla.

Decarteret tied the school record in the pole vault with a winning performance of 4.06m (13'3.75), beating out 20 others for the title. The sophomore's vault matched Laura Chmielewski's mark set back almost seven years ago on May 8, 2004. Decarteret has continued to make upward progress dating back to the indoor season. With the mark, Decarteret earned a spot in the 2011 ECAC Championship on May 13 in Princeton, N.J.

Sophomore Julia Westover also broke through at Florida State, posting the fourth-best toss in the hammer throw in program history of 51.25m (168'2). The Lebanon, N.H. native finished second in the field of 30, topping marks set by Jacquelyn Sedgwick (163'11) on May 16, 1998 and Zara Northover (157'5) on April 20, 2007. Classmate Rachel Taback picked up a seventh-place finish in the same event by clearing 46.57m (152'9).

Senior Heather Crocker cleaned up in the javelin throw, nearly topping her own personal record with a toss of 40.53m (133') for third place.

Continuing on in the field, veteran Althea Charles tallied a sixth-place throw of 12.89m (42'3.5) in the shot put while Taback backed up her hammer throw showing with a ninth-place toss of 40.6m (133'5) in the discus throw.

Newcomers Olivia Stevens and Georgia Pingue registered respective sixth and seventh-place showings of 11.46m (37'7.25) and 11.45m (37'6.75) in the triple jump. In the high jump, junior Ida Cance notched a sixth-place leap of 1.60m (5'3).

On the oval, junior Saleena Abdur-Rashed turned in an ECAC-qualifying clip of 14.03 in the 100-meter hurdles for fourth place. In the 400-meter hurdles, rookie Chelsea Hudson finished eighth with a time of 1:05.16.

Freshman Katie Barrett and senior Kristen Martin logged a pair of top 10 times in the 5,000-meter run. Barrett's jaunt of 17:41.90 was good for sixth place while Martin followed in 10th after crossing in 18:30.45.

The 4 x 400-meter relay team consisting of freshman Camille Henry, Abdur-Rashed, Cuhna and Hudson closed out their time in 3:55.31 for fourth place. The 4 x 100-meter relay squad of freshman Ashlee Pitts, junior Sarah Trotman, Abdur-Rashed and Henry joined together for a seventh-place time of 47.92.

In the 100-meter dash, Pitts closed in on 15th (12.60) while Abdur-Rashed acquired 11th in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 25.48. Trotman picked up 17th after a time of 25.87.

In the 400-meter dash, junior Nikki Cuhna was a 16th-place finisher after a lap of 59.01 while a trio of Huskies finished in the top half of the 800-meter run. Juniors Courtney Mortimer and Laura Coyne finished 13th and 14th, in that order, with times of 2:18.62 and 2:18.90 while classmate Christiana Gallagher took 16th in 2:19.44.

The Huskies look to continue their cross-country schedule with a trip to the Ramapo Invitational on Saturday, April 2 in Mahwah, N.J.
