Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season At UCF Black & Gold

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Northeastern track & field team returns to competition this weekend, traveling south to take on the UCF Black and Gold Invitational on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
  1. WARM WEATHER ON THE HORIZON — The Huskies open their outdoor season this weekend in the Sunshine State at the UCF Black & Gold, sending 18 athletes as they aim to build on their indoor success by breaking school records and climbing into the program's all-time top ten. On Friday, the Huskies will begin competing at 10:30 a.m. and on Saturday competition starts at 10:00 a.m. Last year's attempt at UCF saw many top times set with the women's 4x100 placing seventh (second-fastest in program history) and the men's 4x100 finishing fourth (sixth-fastest all-time). The Huskies also saw standout individual efforts, including Savannah Blair's seventh-place finish and personal best in the 100m.
  2. COMING IN HOT — The Northeastern men's track and field team enters the outdoor season off of a second-place win at the indoor track and field CAA Championships. Graduate student Kyle Sarney took home a win in the mile with a time of 4:06.92 as well as participated in the gold medal DMR group of Jack Mattingly, Bryan Schaeffer and Dawson French (10:07.77). On the field side, Logan Alfandari took home bronze in the weight throw with a mark of 17.86m and Carter Engelman captured bronze in the pole vault with a 4.71m mark.
  3. WHATS AHEAD? — The season kicks off with a trip south, beginning in Orlando before the Huskies head to North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays for the sixth consecutive year. April starts with a meet at UConn. The following weekend, Northeastern will compete across multiple events, including the Friar Invitational at Providence, the UMass Commonwealth Invitational in Amherst, the South Florida Invitational in Tampa and the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational.
