No. 18 Huskies drop 4-2 decision at No. 16 Stanford

Box Score

Despite junior forward Crystal Poland notching two goals, the No. 18 Northeastern Huskies (4-2) dropped a 4-2 decision to the No. 16 Stanford Cardinal (5-1) on Sunday, Sept. 11.

It was the third straight multi-goal game for Poland, who now has found the back of the cage 13 times in 2011. Junior forward Nicky Graham and senior forward Carolyn Malloy each extended their point streaks to six games with assists on Poland's first goal.

Stanford struck first 1:46 into the contest when Hope Burke beat junior goalkeeper Lizzie Priest (1 save) for the 1-0 lead. The Cardinal extended the lead to a pair of goals when Becky Dru converted a penalty corner at the 23:14 mark.

Northeastern cut the deficit in half four minutes later when Poland beat Cardinal goalkeeper Ale Moss (1 save). She then tied the game when she capitalized on a breakaway with under two minutes remaining in the first half.

The Cardinal regained the lead 4:32 into the second half when Stephanie Byrne scored an unassisted goal to make it 3-2. The Cardinal added an insurance goal with 2:18 remaining in regulation to seal the victory.

The Huskies return to action on Friday, Sept. 16, when they travel to Amherst to take on Massachusetts. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
