Aldridge nets two to lift NU to 3-1 win over Lafayette

Box Score

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -
Senior midfielder Pam Aldridge notched two goals, including the game-winner, to lead the Huskies to a 3-1 win over the Lafayette Leopards on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Harvard's Jordan Field.

Junior forward Crystal Poland extended her goal-scoring streak to three games as she potted a goal in the first half, while junior goalkeeper Lizzie Priest made seven saves, many of them late in the second half, to preserve the win.

Lafayette (0-1) got on the board first when Aimee Smith tipped in a Brittany Blass shot past Priest at the 15:21 mark of the first half. NU responded well after the goal, however, putting pressure on Leopard goalkeeper Mara Kish (5 saves).

The Huskies earned six penalty corners in the first half, and with 23:30 gone by in the first half they capitalized on one of their opportunities. With senior forward Carolyn Malloy serving as insert, she fed the ball in to junior forward Nicky Graham, who stopped it perfectly for Poland to shoot it in the back of the cage to tie the game, 1-1-. It was the sixth goal of the season for Poland.

Aldridge broke the deadlock at the 46:02 mark of the game when she came down the right side of the circle and blasted a shot past Kish to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead. It was the first goal of the season for Aldridge.

Nine minutes later Aldridge struck again, this time off a penalty corner. Malloy and senior midfielder Kaela Barker combined to set up Aldridge and extend the Northeastern lead to two goals at 3-1.

Priest then became the star for the Huskies, as she made several key saves, including a great 1-on-1 save against Kelsey Mead with about 21 minutes remaining in regulation. The Leopards earned three penalty corners in the waning minutes, but Priest stepped up to make a save each time.

Northeastern returns to action on Monday, Sept. 5, when the Huskies host Michigan State at Sweeney Field. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
