The women's cross country team opened up its 2011 campaign with a non-scored, tune-up meet against Lesley University (Cambridge) on Saturday morning at Franklin Park in Boston. In just the first race of the season, the Huskies looked strong from top to bottom as junior Katie Barrett ran away with the win.

Barrett dusted the the competition at the 5K race, beating out teammate, sophomore Danielle Klein, by over a minute with a time of 18:56 for the individual title. Klein's mark of 20:05 stood as the runner-up finish. Junior Laura Coyne fought hard the entire race, clocking in at 20:22 to make the podium at third place.

The Huskes continued to turn in the top times, nothcing the first five spots on Sautday. Senior Meegan Joly crossed the 5K trial in 20:54 for fourth place while newcomer Mara Scallon closed in at 20:59 for fifth place.

Classmate Keira Robertson kicked out a seventh-place performance of 22:03 in her first collegiate race while freshman Nicole Novellino ran out a clip of 22:04 for eighth. Senior Kathleen Keen closed out the Huskies' trials in 12th place after registering a time of 23:37.

Northeastern will make its way to the Ocean State next Saturday to run in the Bryant Invitational on Sept. 10.
