Huskies look to lock up first place at Towson on Wednesday

The Northeastern men's soccer team looks to extend its winning streak to a program-record seven games on Wednesday when the Huskies battle Towson.

Playoff picture
With a victory on Wednesday, along with losses by Drexel and James Madison, Northeastern would clinch the No. 1 seed in the CAA Tournament, along with at least a share of the CAA Regular Season Championship, for the first time in program history.

Northeastern's win on Saturday against UNCW secured the Huskies' berth into the CAA Tournament for the second straight season, and sixth time in the past seven seasons.

Last time out
Northeastern set the program record for longest unbeaten steak on Saturday night with a 2-1 victory against UNCW (6-9-1, 3-5-0). The Huskies received goals from Donovan Fayd'Herbe de Maudave and Don Anding, while Oliver Blum made two saves in goal.

“This year, it feels like anytime we take the field, especially here, I feel like the kids feel that they are going to win,” said head coach Brian Ainscough.

Record setting Saturday
In addition to earning crucial points in the CAA standings, several team records either tied or broken last weekend, including:
• Program record for longest unbeaten streak (10)
• Program-tying record for longest winning streak (six)
• 14-game winning streak at Parsons
• Quickest goal since 2003

Anding having a season to remember
In 14 matches this season, senior forward Don Anding has nearly matched his point production from his first three years with NU. The Amity Harbor, N.Y. has 26 points this season, including a four-point week last week to earn CAA Player of the Week honors.

Anding leads the CAA in points, is tied for second in goals, second in assists and tied for first in game-winning goals. He has a point in seven of his last eight matches, is tied for third on the NU record list for career goals (21), and sixth in career points (53).

The series with Towson
NU is 6-8-2 all-time against the Tigers, including a 1-0 victory last season at Parsons Field. Northeastern is 3-1-1 against Towson since 2007.

Scouting the Tigers
Towson hosts NU after a 2-1 loss at ODU on Saturday. Junior forwards Olakunle Banjo and Enrico Skrypzak lead the Tigers with ten and six points this season, respectively. Freshman goalkeeper Felix Petermann has spent the entire season between the pipes for the Tigers with a 1.60 goals against average and .723 save percentage. 

Patrolling the box
Senior goalkeeper Oliver Blum has been a force for the Huskies in net this season. He leads the conference in both goals against average (0.54) and save percentage (.857), and has not allowed more than one goal in any match all season.

The North Yarmouth, Maine native has had two shutout streaks of more than 200 minutes this season, and is currently eighth in the nation in goals against average.

Huskies in the polls
Northeastern is currently the first team receiving votes in the NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll. NU is also ranked fourth in the South Atlantic region of the NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll.

In addition, NU is now ranked 27th in this week's College Soccer News Top 30 National Poll and 33rd in TopDrawerSoccer.com's Top 48.

The road ahead
NU will return home on Saturday to host George Mason at 6 p.m. in the final regular season game at Parsons Field. Prior to the match, the Huskies will honor their five seniors for their dedication to the program and the NU community during their careers.
