BOSTON — The Northeastern men's varsity 8 finished in second place on Sunday at the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. The V8 showing highlighted four top-10 finishes by Northeastern men's and women's crews on the day. The women's novice 8 earned a fifth-place finish, while the men took sixth and eight in the varsity 4.
This year's Chase featured a 2.75-mile course and the event's largest-ever field, with more than 430 entries.
Despite the Lake Carnegie's naturally-protected water, a strong tailwind prevailed over much of the course throughout the day's racing. In the men's varsity 8 race, the Huskies finished second in a field of nearly 50 boats. NU crossed the line in 12:27.192, just behind host Princeton's time of 12:25.382, and well ahead of third-place California (12:34.357). The Northeastern B crew finished 12th (12:55.070), while Northeastern C was 26th (13:17.664) and Northeastern D was 40th (13:55.493).
In the women's varsity 8, the Huskies earned a 23rd-place finish with a time of 14:52.567, while the Northeastern B finished 45th in 15:38.660.
The men's heavyweight 4 race featured a pair of top-10 finishes by the Red and Black. Northeastern A completed the course in 14:03.121 to finish sixth and edge out host Princeton. Northeastern B was close behind, with a time of 14:03.600, to finish eighth. Northeastern C finished in 20th place (14:27.793), while Northeastern D claimed 27th (14:47.360).
The women's novice 8 rowed to a fifth-place finish. The Huskies' time of 15:54.778 was well ahead of sixth-place Georgetown.
The Northeastern women also posted three finishes in the varsity 4 event, claiming 19th (17:03.741), 21st (17:18.125) and 33rd (17:49.514).
