BOSTON—Northeastern welcomes Atlantic 10 member La Salle to Matthews Arena on Saturday night for a 7 p.m. tip. NU will look to end a three-game slide on Saturday night at Matthews Arena. The Huskies, who tied a program record for wins in November, fell victim to poor shooting in a loss to intrastate foe Massachusetts to open December. Despite the shooting woes, NU held a late lead thanks in part to a season-high 41 rebounds and a season-low seven turnovers. La Salle enters the contest on a four-game winning streak and defeated Penn State at Philadelphia's historic Palestra in its last outing.
Tickets for the game are available online at
GoNU.com/tickets. Northeastern students can reserve their tickets on myNEU.
Free t-shirts will be handed out to the first 500 students at the game. The Northeastern men's soccer team, which just completed one of the most successful seasons in school history, will be honored just before halftime. Northeastern Athletics will recognize Boston Children's Hospital—the official hospital of NU Athletics—and the strong partnership with the hospital's sports medicine staff. Saturday night also will feature the return of the Spot—the popular FanFest-style gathering for Huskies of all ages. At the Spot, located on the floor next to the court, alumni, their families, and students age 21 and over can enjoy a la carte concessions and a cash bar in a festive atmosphere. The Spot will be open from 6-7 p.m. and again at halftime. There will also be activities, inflatables, and giveaways, not to mention plenty of Husky spirit.

Scouting the teams
NORTHEASTERN
NU will look to end a three-game slide on Saturday night at Matthews Arena. The Huskies, who tied a program record for wins in November, fell victim to poor shooting in a loss to intrastate foe Massachusetts to open December. Despite the shooting woes, NU held a late lead thanks in part to a season-high 41 rebounds and a season-low seven turnovers. Sophomore standouts
Reggie Spencer and
Quincy Ford paced NU with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Demetrius Pollard scored 12 points to tie a career high, and
Joel Smith added 10 to give NU four players in double figures for the third time in the last four games. Smith leads the team in scoring (17.0 ppg), Ford in rebounding (6.9 rpg).
LA SALLE
The Explorers are 5-1 on the young season and have won four in a row, including an 82-57 win over Penn State at Philadelphia's storied Palestra in their last outing. Junior guard Tyreek Duren (18.5 ppg) leads three Explorers averaging double figures, followed by Ramon Galloway (15.3) and Jerrell Wright (10.7). Steve Zack leads the team in rebounding at 7.0 rpg. Galloway has collected 16 steals so far this season (2.7 spg), tying for 20th nationally. Three La Salle starters shoot better than 37 percent from beyond the arc, with Sam Mills (.389) leading the way, followed by Duren (.385) and Galloway (.378). As a team, La Salle averages .378 from deep.
Double is trouble, but twice as nice
Northeastern's last two games have featured double-double performances by sophomore standouts
Quincy Ford and
Reggie Spencer. Ford picked up his third career double-double in the last outing against Massachusetts, collecting 14 points and 10 rebounds. Spencer's third career double-double came last week, in the game against Maine, where he posted 16 points and 10 rebounds. Interestingly, those numbers matched the totals in his first career double-double performance, when he contributed 16 and 10 in his first-ever collegiate game, an 82-74 victory over Boston University on Nov. 11, 2011.
The Marvelous Marshavelski
After sitting out the 2011-12 season due to injury, redshirt junior
Dinko Marshavelski single-handedly ignited a 7-0 Huskies run off the bench on Tuesday at Matthews Arena. The forward set a season-high scoring mark, and came one shy of tying his season-high on the boards.
November reign
Northeastern tied a program record for wins in the month of November, collecting four Ws. The Huskies defeated Boston University (65-64), Princeton (67-66), UC Riverside (61-52) and Belmont (74-71) all before the calendar turned to December.
Conquering the Last Frontier
Northeastern advanced to the championship game of the Great Alaska Shootout last weekend for the second time in as many appearances. The Huskies defeated UC Riverside (61-52) and previously-unbeaten Belmont (74-71) before losing to Charlotte (59-67) in the title game. NU now is 4-2 all-time in the Shootout. In their previous trip (1986), the Huskies shocked defending national champion and nationally-ranked No. 2 Louisville, 88-84, in the opening round en route to the championship game. NU defeated Utah State, 96-91, in the second round. In the title game, Northeastern legend Reggie Lewis turned in a heroic effort, scoring 29 points, and narrowly missing a double-double with eight rebounds. No. 10 Iowa, though, shot 70 percent to secure the 103-80 victory. Northeastern posted a 27-7 season that year, including a 17-1 mark in league play, and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the sixth time in seven years.

Young guns
With
Jonathan Lee sidelined with an injury, co-captain
Joel Smith is the lone senior in the NU lineup. Smith has answered the call, averaging a team-leading 17.0 ppg. Much of the Huskies' production, though, has come from the freshman and sophomore classes. After Smith, the next six players to post the highest scoring averages and the most minutes per game are either freshmen or sophomores.
Cardiac Canines
The Huskies have had a flair for the dramatic this season, overcoming double-digit deficits in three victories. NU erased a 10-point deficit against Boston University, winning on a last-second 3-pointer by
Demetrius Pollard. The Huskies stormed back from 18 points down in the second half to shock Princeton.
Reggie Spencer delivered the game-winner at Jadwin Gym—a layup off a perfect feed from
Zach Stahl with just two seconds remaining. In the Great Alaska Shootout semifinal, NU twice overcame double-digit margins—including a 16-point second-half gap—to claim victory over previously-unbeaten Belmont.
Dialing in from deep: Smith and Lee among NU's all-time best

The sharpshooter has made at least one 3-pointer in 56 of NU's last 60 games. Lee is currently second on the program's list of career 3-point percentage, while Smith is ranked third.
