Northeastern (14-15, 4-9) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead and never looked back, defeating the George Mason Patriots (23-12, 9-7) 6-3 on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
Aaron Barbosa led the Huskies, going 4-5 with an RBI to raise his team-leading season average to .390.
Andrew Leenhouts made the start for the Huskies, lasting six and two-thirds innings and allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out six batters. The senior was credited with his fourth win of the season.
Anthony Montefusco started on the hill for the Patriots and took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits through six innings pitched.
Mason scored a run to take the early lead in the top of the first on a single by Josh Leemhuis.
But Northeastern responded in the bottom of the first to get two quick runs off Montefusco and take the lead. Barbosa led off the inning with a double to right field.
John Puttress laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to third and after a walk to
Matt Miller,
Jon Leroux hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Barbosa.
Miller then stole second to get himself in scoring position before
Jason Vosler doubled to right field to bring home the second run of the inning and give the Huskies the lead.
In the top of the third, Miller made a highlight reel catch over the left field wall, robbing Chris Cook of a home run. After a Dan Schafferman walked and stole second, Leenhouts picked him off and the Huskies tagged Schafferman out after a rundown, ending the inning.
The Huskies added a third run in the bottom of the third inning. Barbosa led off with a single to center field and stole second. Next, Putress lined a single to left field, moving Barbosa to third. After Miller struck out for the first out of the inning,
Jon Leroux singled through the left side of the infield, bringing home Barbosa to make it 3-1 Northeastern.

Pete Castoldi in the fourth who had been hit by a pitch earlier in the inning to make it 4-1. The inning continued when Barbosa and
Connor Lyons pulled off a double steal and Puttress hit a sacrifice fly to score Lyons for the Huskies fifth run of the game.
The game stayed 5-1 until the seventh when the Patriots added an unearned run when Brig Tison hit an infield single to first base, scoring Blaise Fernandez.
Northeastern got its sixth run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single to left center field by Vosler that scored Miller from third.

Dylan Maki came on in relief for the Huskies and pitched two and one-third innings, allowing just one run on three hits to pick up his first save of the season.
The teams will continue the series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
