The UNCW Seahawks (24-16, 15-3) got a three-run home run from Thomas Pope on their way to a 10-2 victory over Northeastern (14-21, 4-14) at Friedman Diamond on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
John Puttress and
Jason Vosler each had two hits on the day for the Huskies in the loss.
Dylan Maki made the start on the bump and took the loss, pitching six innings and allowing four runs on nine hits. The Gloucester native had the lead until the sixth when UNCW put three runs on the board.
Jordan Ramsey started the game for the Seahawks going five innings and allowing two runs on four hits.
After a scoreless first, the Seahawks took the lead with a run in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by Jake Koenig.
The Huskies responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead.
Jason Vosler started things off with a single up the middle and
Rob Fonseca reached after getting hit by a pitch. Next shortstop
Oliver Hart bunted back to Ramsey and beat the throw to first for a single, loading the bases.
A wild pitch by Ramsey allowed Vosler to score the first Northeastern run of the day and moved all runners up a base.
Connor Lyons got his 11
th RBI of the season, giving the Huskies a 2-1 lead on a fielder's choice that brought Fonseca home.
UNCW left fielder Thomas Pope broke the game open in the sixth with a three-run home run to left field, taking back the lead for the Seahawks at 4-2.
The visitors tacked on two more runs in the seventh off
Matt Cook and four runs in the eighth off
Sean Lyons and
Mike Hanlon to extend the lead to 10-2.
Oliver Hart came in to pitch the ninth for the Huskies, retiring the Seahawks in order in his fifth appearance of the season.
