New England Championship
The Northeastern women's track & field team closed out the 2012 New England Outdoor Championship in 13th place out of 35 squads thanks to a pair of bronze-medal performances by senior Ida Cance and the 4 x 100-meter relay team on the campus of MIT.

The Huskies totaled 27 points to topple 22 other teams while Rhode Island ran away with the crown after an aggregate of 106 points.

Cance placed third in the high jump after sailing over a season-high 1.65m (5'5). The 4 x 100-meter relay squad banded together for a third-place clip of 47.84 as rookies Jessica Dunnigan and Victoria Alexander teamed up with sophomore Ashlee Pitts and senor Sarah Trotman for the performance. Each podium mark gave the Huskies six points.

Dunnigan had a strong showing in the long jump with a five-point performance of 5.43m (17'9.75) for fourth place.

Both the 4 x 400-meter relay and 4 x 800-meter relay teams finished seventh, earning two points a piece for their feats. NU's quartet in the 4 x 400-meter relay consisted of sophomores Chelsea Hudson and Camille Henry along with rookie Monet Brathwaite and Trotman. That team finished in 3:55.13 as the 4 x 800-meter foursome closed out its race in 9:21.03. That grouping was made up of seniors Courtney Mortimer and Christiana Gallagher, junior Laura Coyne and sophomore Eryn Wheeler.

Senior Annie Scully garnered a pair of points for Northeastern after her seventh-place scamper of 11:17.93 in the steeplechase.

In the sprints game, Alexander had a successful New England Outdoor Championship debut, making the finals after a march of 12.19 in the 100-meter dash and finishing third out of 30 in the preliminaries. Alexander followed that with a season-best time of 12.15 for seventh place and two points in the final race. Dunnigan nearly made the finals, missing one of eight final spots by three one-hundredths of a second (12.28). Pitts finished in 14th with a time of 12.51.

The Huskies had five representatives in the 200-meter dash as Alexander emerged as the lead dog for NU once again. Alexander finished ninth to the tune of 24.91 while Trotman clocked in at 25.27 for 11th. Brathwaite, Dunnigan and Pitts respectively finished in 12th (25.28), 25.58 (19th) and 27th (26.31).

In the 400-meter dash, Wheeler and Brathwaite finished with marks of 58.65 and 59.94, in that order. Wheeler's clip stood for 16th while Brathwaite's was good enough for 26th place. Gallagher and Mortimer closed out the 800-meter run with respective marks of 2:15.54 (13th) and 2:18.00 (23rd). Hudson ran in the 400-meter hurdles, kicking out a time of 1:03.18 for 10th place.

Juniors Jillena Decarteret and Lauren Bennett tied for 11th in the pole vault (3.55m – 11'7.75) while sophomore Kelly Benfey (3.40m – 11'1.75) and rookie Dana Schweiger (3.40m – 11'1.75) closed out in 14th and 16th, respectively.

Senior Ashley Furlong competed in her second-consecutive heptathlon to close out her career, totaling 3,804 points for seventh place and two Huskies' tallies.

ECAC Championship
Senior Saleena Abdur-Rashed qualified for the semi-final heat of the 100-meter hurdles with a clip of 14.40 at the 2012 ECAC Outdoor Championship in Princeton, N.J., but missed out on the finals spot by two one-hundredths of a second in the following event. The Bronx, N.Y., native shaved a good portion of time off of her semi-finals jaunt, but the season-best mark of 14.04 placed her just out of the final eight spots.

Senior Nia Howard also competed at Princeton and finished 17th in the long jump with a mark of 5.34m (17'6.25). Junior Rachel Taback took 23rd in the discus throw after clearing 42.82m (140'6). Sophomore Georgia Pingue represented Northeastern in the triple jump, placing 13th with a combination of 12.04m (39'6).

Northeastern closes out its season at the New England and ECAC Champions. Despite some record marks this year, there were not any Huskies in the tip 48 in any event throughout the NCAA.
