CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – In a conference matchup between two top-10 teams, No. 9 Old Dominion emerged victorious over No. 8 Northeastern, 2-1, at Boston College's Field Hockey Field on Sunday afternoon. NU senior Nicky Graham tacked on the Huskies' only goal of the day, and senior goalkeeper Lizzie Priest registered two saves in the loss.

Old Dominion got things rolling after a scoreless first 10 minutes when Kimberly Oakes slung one past Priest in the lower left side of the cage. But the Lady Monarchs didn't hold the 1-0 lead for long. After unsuccessfully attempting to score off back-to-back penalty corners, the Huskies finally connected when Nicky Graham greased one by Marla Petriello to even things up. The goal at 19:58 was the senior's first of the season and 16th of her career.

After trading possessions for more than a few minutes, ODU earned its third penalty corner of the first half and made it count. Sarah Breen's shot ricocheted off of Celine Marquet's stick, giving the Lady Monarchs a 2-1 lead with just 1:46 left in the first period.

After the break, both squads earned their share of penalty corners, but neither side was able to convert the opportunities into points. Northeastern kept up the offensive pace, keeping the ball mostly on ODU's side of the pitch, but was never really able to attack the cage. The Huskies tallied five corners in the second half alone, but ODU remained steadfast on defense, securing the win for the Lady Monarchs.

Both teams were even with nine shots apiece, while Northeastern held the penalty corner advantage, 8-4.

Northeastern, now 1-1 in conference play, will head back on the road, starting with a trip to James Madison on Friday.
