Drexel recap
The Huskies won their fourth-consecutive game when they topped Drexel, 1-0, Friday, Oct. 11.
Lahaina Zoller scored her second goal of the season for the Huskies and
Paige Burnett tallied seven saves for her third shutout of the year. The NU defense, backed by Burnett, has shutout the opposition in three of its last four games. The Huskies have allowed only one goal (vs. UNCW) during that stretch. Drexel, which entered Friday night's match having scored only one goal in its previous seven games, put a lot of offensive pressure on the Huskies in the first half. The Dragons outshot the Huskies, 7-3, in the opening period. However, the shots-on-goal battle was closer, with the Dragons holding a 3-2 edge. Burnett made a pair of saves in the final 10 minutes of the first period to ensure a scoreless tie entering the break. The Huskies have held opponents scoreless in the first half in five of their last six games.
Hanna Terry tallied her fifth assist of the season when she carried the ball down the left side of the field and connected with Zoller on a crossing pass in the 51st minute to give NU the 1-0 lead. Burnett made two saves in the final three minutes of regulation to seal the win. NU and Drexel finished tied in shots (12) and shots on goal (7).
Morgan Hilby led the Huskies with four shots, all of which were on goal.
Delaware recap
NU had its four-game winning streak snapped when it lost 2-0 at Delaware Sunday, Oct. 13. The Huskies were stifled by the Blue Hens' defense as NU managed just two shots on goal. Delaware goalkeeper Jessica Levy made a stop on
Morgan Hilby in the fourth minute and saved an attempt by
Hanna Terry in the 87th minute. The Blue Hens jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Emily Market netted a goal in the sixth minute. Delaware took the one-goal advantage into halftime as NU goalkeeper
Paige Burnett kept the Huskies within striking distance by recording four saves in the first period. On the offensive end in the opening period, the Huskies managed three shots and three corner kicks. Delaware increased its lead to 2-0 in the 55th minute when Andrea Arnold gathered the ball off a deflection and found the back of the net. Despite firing just two shots on goal, the Huskies managed to win the battle in corner kicks, 7-4. Â
