Northeastern baseball announces captains for 2014 season

BOSTON – Northeastern baseball head coach Neil McPhee is pleased to announce the election of three captains for the 2014 season. Seniors Chris Carmain, Connor Lyons and Sean Lyons were chosen by their teammates to represent and the lead the Huskies through the upcoming season.

Carmain is a second-year captain for NU, while Sean and Connor become the first brothers in program history to be named captains.

Carmain, a Methuen, Mass. native, sat out the 2012 season due to injury. He returned in a limited role in 2013, appearing in six games (four starts) while throwing 22.1 innings.

The Lyons brothers, natives of Bedford, N.H., combined to make 63 starts in the outfield for Northeastern last year. Connor and Sean are outstanding defensive players as neither committed an error in the field in 2013.

Connor finished third on the team with a .294 batting average and placed second with 14 steals. Sean hit .254 in 67 at-bats and finished fourth on the team with a .354 on-base percentage.

"It is a tremendous honor for these three young men to be named captains of the Northeastern baseball team," said McPhee. "They bring all of the qualities that our staff would expect from the leaders of this team. Chris, Connor and Sean are extremely hard working and are dedicated to this program. It is a great privilege for them to be voted by their peers as captains for the 2014 season."
