ORONO, Maine -- The Northeastern women's ice hockey team fought Maine to a 1-1 tie Friday night at Alfond Arena. The Huskies move to 1-2-1 in Hockey East and an overall record of 4-5-1.

Chloe Desjardins stopped 25 shots, including eight in the third period and two in overtime to preserve the tie.
Northeastern exhibited a strong penalty kill, holding Maine without a goal in seven power play opportunities. The Huskies also picked up their sixth shorthanded goal of the season, the second for MacSorley.
The Huskies outshot the Black Bears by a total of 28-26, and held the advantage in shots in each of the first two periods.
Each team killed off a penalty in the early going on the first period before skating four a side for nearly two full minutes halfway through the period. After killing off another call, Maine would strike first.
Kelly McDonald netted her first goal of the season, assisted by Jennifer More, to put her Black Bears on top 1-0 at 15:14 in the opening frame. Maine would hold the lead going into the first intermission. Northeastern headed into the locker room trailing, but holding a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal.
After
Hayley Scamurra was called for contact to the head, Northeastern would even the score 32 seconds into the penalty kill. MacSorley potted the unassisted shorty, her second of the season, at 4:47 of the second stanza.
The two squads skated 4-on-4 for two full minutes around the nine minute mark of the period, as Northeastern took minor penalties just before and after a Maine infraction. The Huskies led the period in shots by a slim 10-9 margin.
The scoreless third period would see two final successful penalty kills for the Huskies as each team registered eight shots on goals.
Maine managed the only two shots on goal of the five-minute overtime, with Desjardins stopping both to guide her team to a 1-1 draw.
The Huskies will travel back home to face New Hampshire on Sunday, Nov. 3 at Matthews Arena in another Hockey East matchup at 2 p.m.
