Baseball staff announces 2014 Northeastern prospect clinic

BOSTON - The Northeastern prospect clinic has grown exponentially since the inaugural clinic in 2008. Its success is based on word of mouth throughout the baseball community in the Northeast and as far away as Florida and California.

The NU baseball coaching staff invites athletes to register for the Seventh Annual Huskies Winter Prospect Clinic, held at Cabot Athletic Center on the Northeastern campus. This event gives attendees the opportunity to meet and learn from the Northeastern coaching staff, where they can demonstrate their talents to coaches from numerous New England colleges.

The clinic is run over two seperate weekends and is segmented by position. Each player will receive instruction at their position as well as have the opportunity to interact with collegiate coaches. The clinic allows for underclass players to display their athletic and baseball skills during a time of the year when all coaches are preparing their scouting and recruiting lists for the upcoming high school and summer seasons.

Cabot Center is a field-turf facility that allows for size and space, so that players can truly demonstrate their skills on a surface that is in mid-summer condition during the New England winter season. Most importantly, the clinic gives a head start to both coaches and players in identifying players and programs with mutual interest. Recruiting has escalated to earlier and earlier commitments, so it is vital that we identify potential talent as early as grades 8 and 9 to include on our "follow" list. The clinic also offers uncommitted seniors a final opportunity to perform in front of coaches whose schools and programs are of interest to them.

Drills are set up to allow multiple rounds of hitting, expanded infield, outfield, and catcher drills, and a full bullpen for pitchers. Also, during the two-day event, instructional phases for all positions are mixed into the clinic. The two days give players opportunities to play secondary positions as well. Each year, coaches' attendance has increased, exceeding 30 last year and representing Division I, II and III programs.  Attending coaches receive complete player information sheets, including academic information provided.

Interested players may register by clicking here to register, or emailing Coach Neil McPhee at n.mcphee@neu.edu. Due to a limited capacity of Cabot Athletic Center, please register early before the maximum number of attendees is reached. The clinic has averaged 100-plus players per weekend.
