Winners of two straight, the Northeastern women's basketball team (13-8, 6-4 CAA) hits the road for a two-game Virginia swing, starting with a Friday night match-up at William & Mary (5-17, 3-8 CAA). The game will be televised locally on Comcast SportsNet New England, as well as CSN's Mid-Atlantic affiliates. Tip-off at Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg, Va. is set for 8 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Huskies used a game-winning hook shot from Jewel Tunstull with one second remaining in regulation to seal a hotly contested match-up at Hofstra, coming away with a 59-57 victory on Feb. 7. Tunstull's clinching two points were among her 13 for the day, as she also chipped in four rebounds and three steals. A'lece Mark led NU in scoring by dropping 16 points, including 10 in the second half, and added three assists and three steals. Deanna Kerkhof notched 14 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for the Huskies, who have now won three of their last four on the road in conference play. Shante Evans led the Hofstra attack with a 19-point, 16-rebound double-double, and Anma Onyeuku added 18 points for the Pride.

Tracking the Tribe
William & Mary hosts Northeastern sitting at 5-17 on the year, including a 3-8 mark in CAA conference play. The Tribe fell in their most recent contest in heartbreaking fashion, as George Mason used a jumper with three seconds remaining to steal a 57-56 victory at the Patriot Center. W&M was paced by 16 points and 11 rebounds from Janine Aldridge in the loss, while Emily Correal chipped in 10 and six. Correal leads the Tribe in scoring and rebounding this season, averaging 15.9 points and 7.9 boards a contest. Those marks are fifth and eighth in the CAA, respectively. Aldridge chips in 13.6 points a game, eighth in the league, and leads the conference with 3.3 3-pointers a contest. Anna Kestler leads the Tribe with 2.9 assists per game, ninth league-wide. As a team, W&M hands out 15 helpers a contest, second-best in the CAA. The Tribe also have the fourth-best assist/turnover ratio in the conference at 0.8, but allow 66.1 points a game, second-worst among all teams.

Remember my last...
The Huskies and Tribe have battled 10 times since Northeastern joined the CAA, and NU has enjoyed a 7-3 advantage in the series. William & Mary's last victory in the series came on Jan. 14, 2010. Daynia La-Force has won seven of her nine attempts against W&M, including an 71-69 overtime victory in Boston earlier this year on Jan. 10. In that win, Jewel Tunstull led four Huskies in double figures, scoring 16 points and grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds. Amencie Mercier scored a career-high 15 points in the win, and Deanna Kerkhof also added 15. Christine Huber was the fourth Husky in double figures with 11, and A'lece Mark dished out a career-high 10 assists. Emily Correal and Janine Aldridge led all scorers for the Tribe, punching in 21 and 19. W&M led the contest into the final minute, but a Tunstull lay-in with 17 seconds left sent the game to  overtime, where NU closed it out. This year will be the first time the teams meet twice in the regular season since 2007-08, the only other season it occurred.

Tunstull's Touch
Junior Jewel Tunstull has been called in crunch time on multiple occasions this season, and the center has delivered. The Brooklyn-native has three game-tying or game-winning field goals in the final 30 seconds of contests this year, including a clinching hook shot with one second left in the win at Hofstra on Feb. 7. Tunstull also hit a game-tying shot to force overtime on Jan. 10 vs. William & Mary, and connected with 30 seconds left at James Madison on Jan. 13 to tie the contest.

Protecting the perimeter
In NU's back-to-back wins over Towson and Hofstra, the Huskies have not allowed a single 3-pointer. After holding the Tigers to an 0-for-13 performance on Feb. 3, NU locked down the Pride to an 0-for-10 clip on Feb. 7. Prior to this recent run of defensive success, the Huskies had only held one opponent without a three in a contest, forcing Temple to go 0-for-11 from distance on Nov. 17. Conversely, Northeastern has made at least four triples in every contest, and has knocked down double-digit 3-pointers five times this season. NU connects on 8.1 trifectas a game, the 12th best mark in the country, and hits 36.2 percent of its attempts, 16th nationally. Both of those marks are tops in the CAA.

Terrific Tandems
Northeastern is the only team in the CAA to have two players ranked at the top of several categories. Amencie Mercier and A'lece Mark both average 3.3 assists a game, making them the only teammates to both appear in the CAA's top-six assist leaders. The sophomore duo are also the only teammates both in the top-six in assist to turnover ratio. Kerkhof and Cannon are the only teammates both in the top-five in made threes per game, with Kerkhof second at 2.8 and Cannon fourth with 2.5. Jewel Tunstull and Christine Huber swat 1.3 and 1.2 blocks a game, making them the only teammates both in the top-seven.

Short streak snappers
After ending a two-game slide with the win over Towson, the Huskies have not allowed a losing skid to go beyond two games this year. After dropping back-to-back contests in Miami at the FIU Sun & Fun Classic, NU rattled off three straight victories. Following consecutive losses to James Madison and Delaware, NU went on the road and won two in a row against CAA foes. The Red and Black's biggest rebound from a loss came after falling at Temple on Nov. 17, as they responded by winning five in a row.

Everybody Scores!
In the win over Rhode Island on Jan. 3 and the loss vs. Drexel on Jan. 24, Northeastern saw five players hit double figures in the scoring column, the first two times that has happened since Dec. 5, 2009.  The Huskies have seen four players hit double figures six times this season. NU currently has three players, Deanna Kerkhof, Kashaia Cannon and Jewel Tunstull, averaging more than 10 a game. All three are ranked among the top-15 scorers in the CAA, making the Huskies the only team in the league with three players in the top-15.

Offensive and Defendant
Northeastern as a team ranks near the top of the CAA in the most important of categories. The Huskies are second the league with 66.1 points a game, thanks in part to the league's third-best field goal percentage (40.7) and top 3-point field goal percentage (36.2). NU also generates offense by distributing well, dishing out 13.2 assits per game, fifth in the league. On the other end of the floor, NU is sixth in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to a 37.8 percent mark from the field, supported by the Huskies' 3.7 blocks and 10.4 steals a game, both fourth in the conference.

Winning ugly
NU's last two wins have come despite scoring less than 60 points and shooting under 35 percent from the field. On the year, the Huskies have won three total games when those two factors have both occurred. The last two games were also the first two times this season that the Red and Black have been victorious despite their opponent shooting a higher percentage from the floor. NU's success despite its lacking offensive efficiency has been due in part to the fact that it forced 50 combined turnovers in the two contests, the second most this year in consecutive games.

After Friday's game at William & Mary, Northeastern heads to Norfolk, Va. for a Sunday afternoon showdown with the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs. Game-time on Feb. 17 at the Ted Constant Center is set for 2 p.m.
