BOSTON - The Northeastern men's hockey team suffered a 5-0 loss in its season finale on Saturday night at No. 19 Boston University.

Senior Chris Rawlings stopped 26-of-31 shots to finish 8-14-1 on the season while the Terriers outshot the Huskies, 31-26. NU went 0-for-4 on the power play as Boston University converted two of its five opportunities. BU's Sean Maguire stopped all 26 shots for his third shutout of the season.

Seniors Drew Ellement, Steve Morra, Vinny Saponari, Robbie Vrolyk and Rawlings all participated in their final games as Huskies on Saturday night.

Evan Rodrigues offered the first jolt of the game after ringing a wrister off the crossbar 1:30 into the game, but a pair of NU penalties opened the door for the Terriers to strike first.

Rookie Dustin Darou was shown the door after a five-minute major game misconduct for hitting from behind at 3:35 followed by senior Vrolyk's tripping call at 4:49. Vrolyk's penalty expired, but Darou's still lingered and Danny O'Regan made Northeastern pay at 7:01.

Rodrigues fed O'Regan just above the right circle and with extra room, he skated in and blasted a slap shot off of Rawlings' glove to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead on the power play rip.

The second period yielded no scoring but each club had their opportunities on the power play.  The Huskies gained the extra man after Patrick MacGregor took a seat for interference at 1:08 of the second stanza, but it was Rodrigues who nearly attacked short-handed on the ensuing play.

Early in the third, Rodrigues upheld his attacking mode and scored 1:12 into the frame. Rodrigues scooped O'Regan's carom from up to between the circles and zipped it through Rawlings to put the Terriers up two, 2-0.

Sophomore Dax Lauwers forced the official's hand to go up on a tripping call, but BU maintained possession and pulled Maguire for the extra attacker. Sean Escobedo ran the point and provided O'Regan with the puck on the left side. Nieto accepted the pass and offered his chance, but Rawlings made the initial save but could not recover to stop Nieto's rebound at 12:52 to go up 3-0 with the extra attacker.

Lauwers' penalty still stood and the Terriers took advantage 38 seconds later for the four-goal lead. Matt Grzelcyk hooked up with Sahir Gill on the far post for the one-timer at 13:30 before Gill added BU's fifth at 17:04 of the third period to cap the 5-0 count.

Northeastern finishes the 2012-13 season with a 9-21-4 overall and a 5-18-4 Hockey East record after tonight's results.
